Joan was born in Ottawa. During World War II, she served wilh the Canadian Air Force as a wireless operator. She was a social worker In girl's training schools in England Scotland and Canada and then became a probation officer In Hamilton, Ontario. In 1965, in partnership wilh Joan Bennelt and the late Ethel Mailer, she opened the Talisman antique shop in Newcastle and subsequently operated (or many years at the Wood- lawn in Cobourg. For over twenty years, Joan wintered wintered at Vero Beach, Florida.
