PETER HERRON DR. PAUL HERRON [ Allergic to gravity? I was reading a story in which the main character had a tremendous fall. Over 60 feel from a communications tower. When in the hospital emergency room a big burly nurse was shouting questions al him and she asked "Are you allergic to anything?' "Yes" he replied. She stopped shouting lor a moment and wailed lor his reply. He gathered his breath and said "gravity". She cracked a smile as she looked at his beat up and broken body. He survived. We all may not have a life threatening fall in our 'closets' but we all are under the continual action ol gravity, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We can't escape it. The law ol gravity is absolutely necessary for life to continue as we know it on the earth, but it has devastating effects it we try to break the natural law ol gravity. What about il you haven't fallen 6 leet from a tower? Why worry about something that is so obviously unchangeable? Well, just like the slow action ol a mountain creek on the rock it flows over can cause destruclion to the mountain over lime, so will the continual action ol gravity on your body. Research has shown that when the posture ol the spine is out ol alignment, gravity will accelerate the wear and tear on the bones ol your spine (called vertebrae) Irom 300 to 900 percent, depending on your age. That means that lor every year you are on the planet your spine ages 3-9 year. Those same researchers say that often you start this process in childhood. Is it any wonder that arthritis (wear and tear) is epidemic in our society and that many people have no hope ol recovery? Early detection is the key to prevention. Waiting tor pain is the worst approach. Gravity is such a continual slrain to your body that your body will adapt, over lime, not giving you warning signals that this devastating arthritic process Is happening • olten until it's loo late. Only by identifying postural problems and correcting them will you light oil the forces acting against your body. Chiropractors know that posture Is the window to your spins and nervous system. Without an optimal functioning spine, your nervous system will not function oplimally, When your spine Is out ol alignment (subluxated), not only is your spirto al risk, so are Iho areas that the nerves supply • whether that's your heart or your digeslivo tract. Detection starts through a very carelul chiropractic chock-up. The chiropractor will perforin a very specialized lest to lind Iho beginning ol those postural problems, known as vertebral subluxations. II subluxation Is found, then correction Is essential and your chiropractor can tell you il correction Is possible through advanced techniques and exercises. Wo are all allergic to gravity. Tim way to bent Iho law ol gravity is to bo proactive and gol checked by a subluxnlion specialist, a chiropractor, before gravity gels Iho host ol you and your family.
