Six seasons itgo,'Orono and Thedford met in the Ontario Ontario Atom championships, with Thed- Ibrd emerging as the winner. Fast forward to this season, and with nine Orono players still intact from that Atom team and l() from Thedford on the roster, the All-Ontario Midget E championship series had a little hit of history added to the drama. In this case, history wasn't repeated. Orono rode a two-goal performance from Bob Witheridge to win 3-1 in Game 5 of their best-of-scven-series played in front of a sold-out crowd at the Orono Arena Friday night. The victory victory clinched the series for Orono four games to one. ■ "That's exactly how they wanted everything to unfold;" said Orono coach John Tresise of his players' intentions of \yinning a provincial title in front of a hometown crowd. "It couldn't have been any belter. It was so special because there were so many people in the arena it was just electric. "We couldn't have asked for anything belter. It was perfect." Derek Herschoep had the other goal for Orono, which scored a goal in each of the three periods. Thcdlbrd's only goal came late in the third period to cut the margin to 3-1, but that's as close as the game got. Orono won the other games in the series by scores of 6-0,3-2 and 7-2. The only loss came in the second second game in Thedford, a 3-2 overtime setback. While the hometown crowd worked in Orono's favour on Friday night, there was some concern as to how the players would react. With that many people in attendance, it would be understandable if it had a negative effect and the team played nervously. The goaltending duties were shared between Shawn Neilson and Kirk Campbell who made several spectacular saves.
