E., BOWMANVILLE 623-3396 Thursday, September 4th, 1930 The Canadian Statesman CANADIAN LEGION FORM BOWMANVILLE BRANCH R.M, Cotton Elected President of Newly Organized Soldiers' Society Officers of the Bowmanville Branch ' of Ihc Canadian Legion, British Empire Service League, which was formally organized at a meeting in Ihc Parish Hall on Friday evening, August 29lh, are: President - R.M. Cotton; 1st Vice President - W.J. Hoar; 2nd Vice President - C.T. Ross; Secretary - Thomas Annison; Treasurer - Fred Crydcrman; Executive Committee - E.C. Hoar (Newcastle), W. Smith Ferguson and Tom Hamilton. W.J. Hoar, who was chairman of the meeting held recently to discuss the formation of the legion, presided, and after giving a resume of this meeting, called on the speaker of the evening, M. McIntyre 1-Iood, provincial 2nd vice president of the Legion. Mr. Hood dealt | with what might be accomplished among i the war veterans of Bowmanville by the j Legion, along Ihc line of social endeavor, ! as well as relief measures and adjustment | of living conditions, pensions, veteran's j allowances, etc. In order to accomplish i these services, complete co-operation | among Ihc members will be necessary. ' After an interesting discussion i period in which many prospective j aclivilies of the Legion for the benefit of i the veterans as well as the whole ] community, were suggested and talked j over, about 45 members signed the I charter application. j Regular meetings will be held on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month, At | the next meeting, September 5th, formal j membership applications will be I received. Officers will be installed on j September 19th. •
