Give to the Statesman's annual Toy Drive. It's hard to be seriously safety conscious when you're main responsibility responsibility in life is to have fun. The Durham Regional Police Community office volunteers have successfully addressed this important fact of life by bringing safety messages to Grade 1 and preschool age children via the 'Puppet Patrol.' And they are having fun : with the colourful puppets that are al- '!i most as big as they are and of a qual- y ity not unlike the famous Muppets. But there just aren't enough volunteers volunteers to fill all the requests Durham schools and other children's organizations organizations have submitted for the puppets puppets to make an appearance. "Last year we went out to a lot of elementary schools during the day - two to three times a week - but this year, we've been going out only once a week to nighttime events," says Ms. Giuliana. "We do need volunteers. "On Halloween at my house, I 1 ; brought out the puppets," she adds, tii "The children (trick or treaters) were f saying, 'Hey, mom, it's the Puppet ; Patrol.'
