Bowmanville woman wrote the book on fitness And it's coming to Chapters stores soon es,' Ms. Pcarse relates her own struggle with weight loss after the birth of her two girls. About 12 years ago, she says, she looked in the mirror and decided to take control of the issues she was dealing with, both physical and mental. Once her own weight loss issues issues were well behind her, Ms. Pcarse began to write down how she had done it. Other women were continuously continuously asking for advice and asking to hear the story of how she accomplished her goals, she relates. Now, with a self-published book in its second edition about to hit the shelves at Chapters, it seems the philosophy philosophy she espouses to others is working out pretty well in her own life. "I wrote the book to help women reach their goals," explains explains the 50-year-old. "I had a lot of issues to go through; an attempt at weight loss, an attempt attempt to get in belter shape. None of it worked until I started started weight lifting." In her book, 'Making the Best Exercise and Food Chôm ent forms," she recalls. "It started off as a manila folder, then a see-through folder until finally, I printed it a year ago." The first edition of just 250 copies helped Ms. Pcarse test the waters before a slightly-re- vised second edition of 1,000 copies was released this fall. Just recently she made a deal with Chapters to get the book into its Ontario stores and will be speaking at some of the stores beginning in January. The book "provides some very specific, very practical advice for a six-step, six-week (and beyond) body fat reduction reduction plan with topics ranging from calculating calories burned during exercise to identifying food groups, choosing supplements, menu planning, creating a weekly exercise schedule and using weights in exercise. But it's not just a how-to book. It also reads like a diary of Ms. Pearse's own journey from feeling unfit, both physically physically and mentally, to her present present state of fitness and fulfillment. fulfillment. "I wanted it to be believable," believable," she explains on her choice to include her own story in the book. "I wanted people to know it doesn't matter matter if you're 30, 50 or 70. You can look your best and be in the best health possible. It's a book that can help everybody. There are no fads and no gimmicks. gimmicks. That's the most important important thing." Currently, Ms. Pcarse is working on a video and CD ROM to make her program even more accessible to women. "They're being produced to complement the book," she explains, explains, pointing out not all women can get out to a gym.
