A number of years ago a group of young girls were among the pupils attending Hampton Public School, north of Bowmanville. They grcw.up, got jobs, married and went their different ways - and then disaster struck. One stormy night in March 1975, Eva (Yco) Ilaass and her husband Edward, reluming to their farm home at 3275 Wallace Point Road Peterborough, to check for possible problems following a severe electric storm, discovered their house in flames. Phone lines were down and they had- to drive to notify the fire department. Their home was destroyed along with " all their belongings. ,,. ; Word quickly spread and while friends, neighbours arid relatives became quickly involved in replacing the structure, Eva's school pals from Hampton Public School quickly rc-uniticd a month later, in April 1975, and held a surprise shower to help replace some home necessities. Tiicy enjoyed this reunion so much that they decided to unite again in October and added a politick meal to this meeting. From that time on, this group has met in April and October, each year, at one of their homes to review and renew this well established friendship and share a politick meal. As this month marks the 25th year, or silver anniversary of their meetings it was decided to make it special. They met at the Village Tea Room, Keene, for lunch, enjoyed an afternoon of old and new memories at the home of. Arlene (Short) Rowan, Elmhurst Road. Otonabce. (Arlene's early public school education was at the old Keene School), and were joined by their husbands for dinner out and a night on the town. Also joining them were Darlene (Hall) and Clayton Reid of Orono. In addition to Eva and Arlene, those attending this reunion were: Julie (Payne) Alexander, Bobcaygeon; Sandra (Smith) Lauria, Port Hope; Sandra (MacNab) Stephenson, Caesarea: Louise (Terrill) Slratham, Enniskillen; Erlyne (Barron) Young, Aslibum; and Linda (Sntalc) Waldie, Harrowsmith. There is an old saying that blood is thicker than water. This may be true but there is an undeniable thick bond that continues to unite these school days' friends.
