Police spokesman Sergeant Jim Grimley said an unknown gunman shot Mr. Jones "as he ran on to Pickering Beach Road, killing the victim." Mr. Jones was to testify today in Oshawa as a witness witness in the case of a 25- year-old man charged in a June 2000 home invasion during which a Pickering woman and her 20-year- old son were bound with duct tape and handcuffed. Police at the time said three men, one armed with a handgun, their faces concealed concealed by handkerchiefs, ransacked the house, pistol-whipped pistol-whipped the man and robbed his mother of her credit cards, forcing her to reveal her PIN. Police said the robbery was drug-related and later arrested a man at a Whitby apartment after the credit cards were used to get cash from an ATM. Police say they haven't ruled out or linked the slaying to the case. "While it's obviously of great concern we've got no indication at this time Mr. Jones's death is related to (the case).
