OSHAWA CALL 576-1357 Green Gaels open Jr. B lacrosse season with split Li BY BRAD KELLY Sports Editor BOWMANVILLE p wasn't perfect, but the opening 3 of the Ontario Lacrosse Asso ciation Jr. B season has given the Clarington Green Gaels a | starting point. '6 With a pair of games on the road this past weekend, the | Green Gaels opened the season | with a split, losing 10-5 in Ne- pean on Saturday night, foils foils lowed by a 10-3 win in t? Gloucester Sunday afternoon. 'j Next on the schedule for the S defending Founder's Cup j2 Canadian champions is its iiahome opener Thursday night against Mimico at 8 p.m. at the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex. For new head coach Brad MacArtliur, the weekend provided provided a few firsts. It was the first time he was able to see his players in a game situation, as well as recording the first loss and win of his coaching career. Saturday's setback was attributed attributed to a bad case of rookie nervousness, said MacArtliur. "It was a case of rookie jitters. jitters. The guys stepped off the bus, checked into a hotel, and then went and played their first Jr. B game. It all got to them." . James Barton, Phil Gree- nen, Aaron Lowes, Tyler Harris and Casey Logeman were the goal scorers for Clarington. Sunday's outing was a much better performance, said MacArtliur, adding that the coaching staff from Gloucester scouted the Saturday night game in Nepean, and wondered wondered how the Green Gaels could look so different in less than 24 hours. "(Gloucester) came up to me after the game and asked 'where did all the new players come from?' We looked like a whole different team out there," said MacArtliur. "To come back the next day and play as well as we did against Gloucester was pretty good." Logeman led Clarington's offence with three goals and an assist. Ryan Preston and Ryan McMichael had two goals each with singles to Jim Mumford, Andy Glen and Eric Howe. THE SMASH HIT MUSICALS^ A8BA 8 BENNY ANDERSSON & BJORN ULVAEUS' MAMMA MU! 7 h 1 \ ?
