The two are cancer cancer survivors and together they will lead the Oshawa Relay for Life this Friday, June 1. The event, a non-competitive non-competitive overnight relay, takes place for the first time in Durham Region this year. The relay involves teams of 10 to 12 people who will walk or run around the Oshawa Oshawa Civic track for half- hour intervals from S p.m. Friday night to 8 a.m. Saturday. Saturday. "People are getting really excited about it," says Aniey Mezzabotta, co-ordinator for the Durham Relay for Life. "There are 51 teams registered registered with a minimum of 10 people and 116 survivors registered. Our goal was 40 teams. That to us would've been a success. It's more than we hoped for." The teams have come from all over Durham, says Ms. Mezzabotta, who notes the preparations began in February and word has veiy quickly spread through the community. Last year Bongo was diagnosed with a fibro sarcoma, the most lethal form of cancer known to infect cats. Today, 10 months post-operative, Bongo is as frisky as ever, say his trainers.
