ImwIw Generals' offence goes cold in northern swing BY BRIAN LEGUEE Stuff Editor OSIIAWA - The Oshawa Generals travelled north on the weekend, but their performance went south. The Generals dropped a 6-3 decision decision Friday in Sault Stc. Marie and then fell 4-1 to the Wolves in Sudbury Sunday, leaving George Burnett, the team's coach and general manager, concerned about his team. Oshawa is now 1-2-0-0 in the young Ontario Hockey League season. "There's no panic," said Burnett Monday. "But I saw some things that are concerning to me and we will deal with them." Burnett is worried about several aspects of his team's play, including discipline, scoring ability and defensive defensive coverage. "Right now, obviously, we're not scoring a lot of goals," said Burnett, whose team has scored eight goals in three games, adding he believes the return of Brandon Nolan from the New Jersey Devils' training camp will provide an offensive boost. Burnett also cited lapses in both games that cost his team dearly. "Friday there was eight minutes in the third period (during which Oshawa Oshawa surrendered three goals) when GEORGE BURNETT 'Right now, obviously, we 're not scoring a lot of goals.' we were up a goal on the road where we didn't respond particularly well," he said. "Sunday we were tied going into the second and they scored three times." Burnett is also clearly expecting better performances from some veteran veteran players. "We had some mistakes from some veteran people," he said of Sunday's loss, adding he has "some concerns about some players who need to be better." On the positive side, Burnett is pleased with the play of some of his young players, noting last year's top draft pick, Ben Eager, along with this year's first choice, Nathan Horton, and second-year sparkplug Sean Ste- fanski, arc enjoying strong starts. Eager scored three of Oshawa's four goals on the weekend, with Stc- fanski adding the other. The Generals need to address discipline discipline after coughing up 22 power- play chances in their first three games. Fortunately, the team's penalty penalty killers have done a credible job, allowing allowing just three power-play markers. Still, the Generals have to "be better" better" at even strength, said Burnett. Oshawa returns to action Friday in Ottawa and then hosts Sudbury on Sunday at 6:35 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium. Auditorium. GENERALLY SPEAKING: Oshawa Oshawa defenceman Richard Spence could face a suspension after getting a fighting instigating penalty with 50 seconds left in Sunday's game. . . Sudbury goalie Miguel Beaudry made 38 saves Sunday. . .T.J. Aceti has played all three games in goal for Oshawa. Oshawa.
