They include: • The completion of a land purchase at Green Road and Baseline Road in Bowmanville for a new sports facility to include regulation-size hardball diamonds; diamonds; • Land acquisition in 2003 for a Newcastle community park on Rudell Road to initially include four soccer pitches and two softball diamonds; • A new neighbourhood park, slated for construction this year, for the Port of Newcastle area; • Continued work on Clarington-wide waterfront projects. playground area and will connect with the Samuel Wilmot Nature Area. "I'm personally thrilled with the progress we're making here," said Ward 2 Councillor Don MacArthur. "When I decided to run (for council) it was one of the things l wanted to push. "We're going to catch up to some of the neighbouring communities and surpass surpass them," said the former hardball coach, who noted to dale there is only one regulation-size hardball diamond in all of Clarington, located in Kendal. Ward l Councillor Jane Rowe said she too is pleased with the direction the municipality is taking in addressing recreation needs. "It's important with all the growth that people will know their children won't be grown and moved away before these facilities are built," she said. "It's particularly wonderful to be getting getting an award for doing something you enjoy so much."
