Flames shine bright in playoffs CLARINGTON - After finishing the regular season at the lop of the Central Central East Girls' Hockey League with a record of 21-2, the Clarington J&M Tire Flames team were the champs in the novice rep playoffs. The Flames shutout Lindsay 3-0. Goals were scored by Megan Kirkham, Aliya Minncma, and Melissa Berney. Assists came from Rebckah Thomas, Stephanie Spencer, Brcanne McPaul and Courtney Rank. Thomas led the way in a 5-1 victory over Port Hope, scoring two goals and one assist. Kirkham got a goal and an assist. Single goals came from Berney and McPaul. Brittany Foote got two assists, assists, with singles from Rank. Min ncma and Brigitte,Hillebrand,,,,, Kirkham scored the only goal in a 1- 0 victory over Cold Creek. The bantams became the second Orono team to collect an Ontario Minor Hockey Association D championship championship this season, posting a pair of wins and a tie against Tliedford over the weekend to win the final scries nine points to five. Orono clinched the series with a 5- 3 win in Game 7 Sunday in Tliedford, concluding a hectic weekend that included included a 2-2 tic in Game 5 in Tliedford Friday followed by a convincing 6-0 home-ice win in Orono Saturday. Originally a best-of-seven, the series was altered to an eight-point affair following following the Game 5 tie. Coach Brian Allin said his team's physical play might have been the difference difference after splitting the first four games of the series.
