The Bowmanville native is one of 40 players who have been invited to the selection camp for the Canadian Senior Women's softball team that will run from June 8-30 in Burnaby, B.C. Once Finalized, the Canadian team will remain in Burnaby for another another mini-camp before heading off to tournaments in Honolulu, Hawaii and Surrey, B.C. All of this will lead up to the World Championships from July 26 to August August 4 in Saskatoon, Sask. "Among these 40, we have a good mix of youth and experience, from seven Olympians to a number of athletes who are making their first appearance at this level," says head coach Mike Renney of the tryout camp currently underway. West is included in the Olympian category, having played ' for the Canadian team in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Officials will select 17 players from the 40 at the B.C. camp to represent represent Canada in international competition, competition, including the World Championships Championships in Saskatoon, which will serve as an Olympic qualifier for 2004. "For these athletes, this will be a unique opportunity to compete in a World Championship in their home country and one that may only come along once in an athlete's career," says Renney. The top four teams at the World Championships in ' Saskatoon will gain entry to the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
