July 27 marks the day of the 10th annual CAPPY Motorcycle Motorcycle Ride for Child Abuse Prevention. The Child Abuse Prevention Rights of Kids ride starts at 9 a.m. at Country Style Donuts in Manchester, where Durham riders will join other groups led by police officers, firefighters, firefighters, business people, and special celebrity guests. The ride ends in Ohsweken for the Grand River POW WOW. Last year the Durham ride raised $3,026 to support youth who were helped by the Durham Children's Aid Society. "We want people to take notice. Awareness is the key," says Pat Palmer, founder of the provincial CAPPY ride. "Last year, proceeds from the Durham ride helped a gifted foster child complete her education, and covered treatment costs so that a little boy with many severe physical physical challenges could remain in a loving adoptive family," said Mr. Palmer. There is a registration fee of $30 per rider, and $15 for passengers. Riders who collect collect more than $100 in donations donations will be entered into a draw for prizes.
