I6-I8 and the world is going to know it. The municipality, with funding from corporate sponsors, will be hosting a VIP hospitality entertainment area on Sunday, Aug. 18 during the race at Mo- sport International Speedway as part of a campaign to promote Clarington. As well, this year, the municipality has advertisements advertisements on the track boards. "This is the single biggest tourism event in Clarington," says Mayor John Mutton. "This is an international race. There will be more than 85,000 people there over the weekend and it will be broadcast on NBC," the American television television network. The CASCAR race held earlier this summer, called the 'Clarington 250,' was broadcast on Sportsnet. Mention of the municipality and shots of the ads on the track were made "about 200 times," says the mayor. "It's just a way for us to get some advertising for the municipality." The hospitality tent will be located at the start/finish line of the race, says Jennifer Cooke, Clarington's communication communication and tourism manager.
