DURHAM - Organizers say the holiday weekend was a successful one for the Salvation Salvation Army Thanksgiving Food Drive, but there is still work to be done. "Slow but steady," said food drive co-ordinator Maryanne Sholdra. "We have collected approximately 10,000 pounds over the holiday holiday weekend kickoff and with another week to go, we are anxiously keeping our fingers crossed to reach our goal of 40,000 pounds average for Thanksgiving." Ms. Sholdra said the food banks in Ajax, Bowmanville, Oshawa and Whitby are still short on all non-perishable food items and have run out of peanut butter and canned fish. "Any non-perishable food item such as cereal, powdered milk, pasta and sauce, canned meats, veggies, fruit and sugar would be greatly appreciated," she added. Food collection boxes will remain at all fire stations and major grocery stores until Oct. 20.. Residents are asked to donate donate whatever they can afford to help their neighbours in a time of need. Our Commitment The ideas and suggestions you raise during the Dialogue in Bowmanville, and at the other Dialogues throughout the region, will help contribute to the development of a collaborative vision to deliver local, responsive health care solutions.
