V - www.durhamregion.com THE CANADIAN STATESMAN, OCTOBER 23,2002 PAGE 5 ,ul- Dorothy James, 87, would 'do anything for you' BOWMANVILLE - Described as a "wonderful mother and devoted grandmother" and a "real, true-blue friend" by acquaintances, Dorothy James passed away Sunday morning at the age of 87 after suffering a stroke earlier this month. Mrs. James, along with her late hus- rrband John, was best known by members members of the community as owner of 'The Canadian Statesman' newspaper. The family-owned newspaper was sold to Metroland Printing, Publishing and Distributing Ltd.in 1999. "She was a real true-blue friend," said lifelong pal Sandra Stainton, who worked for the James family for 10 years at the newspaper. "She was a real family person and that was her main thing, family. She was hard-working and a dedicated family person. "She would do anything for you whether you asked or not." Another friend, Louise Lyle, came to know Mrs. James as a "wonderful mother and devoted grandmother" dur- i„Jng the 50-plus years they were friends. "She was such a,remarkable woman and a veiy good friend." Mrs. James was a lifelong Bow- manville resident, who worked dili- gently behind the scenes of the family- owned newspaper, said her youngest j'„son, Rick. She is survived by her three sons, John Jr., Bob and Rick, sister Mrs. Betty Preston (husband Dave), brother Bill Edger (wife Marion), eight grandchildren grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
