LUND» v N1V1 Friday, Nov. 29th from 9 am - 9 pm Saturday, Nov. 30th from 9 am - 5 pm Guilty of attempted murder • GUILTY from page 1 the court that, in 1986, Mr. Hart ■ gassed Ms. Peterson holding a propane tank to her mouth as she •slept, and later tried strangling her with a rope, choking her until she passed out. Mr. Hart was charged at the time with attempted murder but pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and re- . ceived six months in jail. The couple then reconciled. Judge McLean rejected Mr. Hart's ■ claim he was too drunk to remember the attack. "This court has great difficulty difficulty with Mr. Hart's testimony. His recollection is selective," he said, noting noting the accused hid the weapons prior to police arriving and showed no signs of impairment at the time of his arrest. Ms. Peterson was asleep on the family room couch when she was awakened by an "immense pain" in her head about 3 a.m. Three more blows rained down, splitting open her forehead, before the couple's 11 -year- old son, one of three children, heard his mother's screams for help. The child walked into the family room, in terrupting the attack. Mr. Hart then told his wife he was "sorry" and got her a package of frozen vegetables for her head, which was bleeding profusely, court heard. When she turned her back, Mr. Hart came at her with the knife. He pinned his wife down on the couch and tried stabbing her under the rib cage with "such force the blade broke at the hilt," said Judge McLean. "Clearly this is not a spontaneous act," he said. Mr. Hart will be sentenced in January. January.
