In September 2003, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology will offer an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Justice Studies degree degree to help meet the needs of the 21st-century workplace as well as the double cohort. The diverse four- year program offers opportunities for graduates in the fields of criminal justice, law and human rights. As Chair of the department from 1996 to 2001, he designed the curriculum for a new and innovative program in criminal justice and public policy. Graduates will build an integrated approach to justice services including including the theories, processes and concepts concepts that are applied in the justice system. They will also have a strong understanding of ethical decisionmaking, decisionmaking, diversity, victims' rights and social justice. With a strong program core, only six of the program's 40 courses are electives. Courses will focus on criminal justice law, customs customs and immigration law and other areas. At Ontario's first laptop-based university, every student will use a current model IBM ThinkPad and benefit from fully networked classrooms classrooms and learning spaces. Research is a key part of the School of Integrated Justice Studies and will focus on the criminal justice system, policing and corrections. Based on employer demand, graduates graduates of the integrated justice studies program can choose from a variety of careers including policing, probation, probation, corrections, victims' agencies, private businesses, private security firms, customs, immigration, government government services and law. "Our graduates will have the skills to embark on a successful career in a variety of high-demand occupations," occupations," adds Dr. Hinch.
