SLEEMAN, Hilda B. (Formerly of Whilby) • Peacefully aller a short illness at Lakeridge Health- Oshawa on December 26th, 2002 in her 99lh year. Predeceased by her parents James and Helena Sleeman. Shé often spoke fondly ol Kendal, her birth place and later moved with her parents to the family in Oshawa on Farewell Ave. She started in the retail business as a teenager, first at Gerrows store across from the Pedlar plant in Oshawa then obtaining a job as a sales lady at Ward's Dry Goods where she worked for a number ol years eventually buying the goods tor her department. An opportunity came along to buy a similar business in Whitby. She purchased the building and operated successfully, untilher retirement, retirement, the Hilda B. Sleeman Ladies Wear and Dry Goods Store. After retirement Miss Sleeman kept busy with her many interests including Ruddy General Hospital Auxiliary, (now Lakeridge Health- Whilby), her garden, visiting shut ins and driving others, others, making her special white chocolates, which she was so generous in giving. Miss Sleeman was able to live in her Whitby home until the fall of 2001 at which time she moved to Whiteclilfe Terrace Retirement Residence, where, thanks to the excellent staff, she was able to enjoy many ol the activities including several several excursions. Thanks to the 9th floor staff at Lakeridge Health-Oshawa for their dedicated lime and care during Hilda's brief illness.
