The unit is investigating after someone recently received a call from a person claiming to be soliciting soliciting funds on behalf of the police department "to keep criminals in jail and youth off the streets," a police police statement says. The caller requested a credit card number to process the donation, however, the victim didn't pay. Neither Durham Regional Police nor the Durham Regional Police Association are currently canvassing canvassing for donations, the statement said.
