Darlington Nuclear gets five-year licence renewal CLARINGTON - A five-year renewal of the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station's operating licence has been approved by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. "It's a good thing," says Gregory Smith, senior vice-president of the Ontario Power Generation plant. He says the length of the licence- renewal reflects an improved performance performance at the facility, The previous operating licence renewal was for three years. Mr, Smith credits the plant's suc cess to its "enhanced operation as a result of human and material perfor-* mance." He says the renewal, the longest in Canada, is "a milestone towards a much higher level of performance." The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station is also seeking a five-year renewal, "Shorter (contracts) are a drain on (lie (CNSC) manpower," Mr. Smith explains, lie says the decision of the CNSC reflects confidence in the safety of the plant,
