Rickard Recreation Complex in Bowmanville Saturday. While most would jump to the conclusion that it must be hockey related related in some way, that's not the case. The Clarington Speed Skating Club will be hosting the 4th Annual Eastern Ability Meet on Saturday, with clubs throughout the province participating. ■ While the club's motto is 'Building 'Building Future Olympians in Clarington,' there is the guarantee of at least one competitor who has reached international international status being in attendance. Carol Anne Chenard, who placed sixth overall at the World Championships Championships in 2001, will share her thoughts on what it takes to be a world-class athlete. She will speak to athletes and spectators at noon. The short track speed skatjng competition will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m„ with admission free for spectator.. spectator.. Patrick Mackay and Jake Walker scored for Home Building Centre. Devin Maclean played well in net for the Red Wings. Detox Flyers dump Williams Audio - The Detox Environmental Flyers dumped Williams Audio Video by a score of 6-2 in Clarington Recreation Hockey League atom action action recently. Game 3 is in Scarborough Friday at 7:30 p.m., with the fourth game of the series in Oshawa Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Bowmanville figure skaters rise to the top in Ottawa OTTAWA - The Bowmanville Bowmanville Figure Skating Club sent a leant of 31 skaters to the 2003 Eastern Ontario STARSkate Invitational Championships in Nepean earlier this month, producing several strong results. In the Pre-preliminary free skating event, the results were Nicole Irvine - 1st, Shelby Lia - 4th, Alanna Kurt - 3rd, Katie Buffet - 10th, Candice Mintz - 8th, and Kirsten Moore - 4thy By finishing in the top three of their flights, Irvine and Kurt moved on to the finals where they placed sixth and eighth respectively. Irvine also competed in the Pre-preliminary skating skills event, where she brought home thç gold medal, . Bowrfianville's pairs skaters both skated their way to gold medals. Rebecca Rank and Liam O'Brien were victorious in the Open Pairs category, while Rebecca Marcinek and Ricky Stone were the winners in the Introductory Pairs flight. These victories'- have earned both of these teams the honour of competing at the all Ontario Trillium Starskate Championships in March, where they will represent both Bowmanville and the entire Eastern Ontario Section. The Preliminary Ladies event was also dominated by members of the Bowmanville Figure Skating Club. The results from the initial flights were: Krysta Zoet - 4th, Erika Chew - 1st, Kathleen Kathleen MacDonald - 3rd, Jordan Somogyi - 1st, Jocelyn Wood - 14th, Erica Duncan - 1st, Lindsay Akot - 3rd, Carly Morishita - 1st, Katie Gurr - 2nd, Rebecca Rank - 2nd, Rebecca Rebecca Marcinek - 4th, and Lauren Kolarek - 4th. These performances earned the Bowmanville club an unprecedented unprecedented 11 skaters moving moving on to the semifinal round. In the semifinal action, results results were: Jordan Somogyi - 1st, Erika Chew - 2nd, Lind- sawAkot - 3rd, Kathleen Mac- : lipfiald - 6th|K&sta Zoet 12th, Erica Duncan - 2nd, Rebecca Rebecca Marcinek - 5th, Carly Morishita - 6th, Rebecca Rank - 10th, Katie Gurr -llth and Lauren Kolarek - 13th. Seven of these skaters moved on to the finals, where stunning presentations led to an all-Bowmanville podium for the Preliminary Ladies: Jordan Somogyi - 1st, Erika Chew - 2nd, Lindsay Akot - 3rd, Erica Duncan - 4th, Rebecca Rebecca Marcinek - 7th, Carly Morishita - 11th and Kathleen MacDonald - 12th. Somogyi, Chew and Akot will join the club's pairs skaters at the all-Ontario championships next month. In the Preliminary Men's category, Bowmanville's Ricky Stone earned the silver medal by placing 2nd in a flight of 17 men. In the Junior Bronze category, category, initial flight results were: Caitlin Dunham - 14th, Sarah Neil - 2nd, Jennifer James - 5th and Jennilee Davidson - 1st. Neil and Davidson moved onto the semifinal where they placed 15th and sixth respectively. respectively. Davidson advanced to the final round where she finished seventh overall. Katelyn Evans had a banner banner weekend, placing third in the Senior Silver ladies flight, and first overall in the Gold Triathlon. Sarah Fell also competed in the triathlon, fin-^ ishing 15th.
