Orono's Bickell still in hunt for OHL title with 67's OTTAWA - Orono's Bryan Bickell Bickell is alive and well and still in the hunt for a championship in his rookie rookie season in the Ontario Hockey League. Although Bickell's Ottawa 67's were faced with possible elimination on consecutive days, they managed to prevail 3-2 in overtime Sunday and 5-2 Monday to win the OHL's Eastern Conference title in seven games over the stubborn Toronto St. Michael's Majors. Bickell managed just one goal in the series, scoring in a 4-1 Game 4 victory for Ottawa. The 17-year-old left-winger now has four goals and one assist in 15 of Ottawa's 18 playoff games. He had 7-10-17 numbers in 50 regular season season games. The 67's begin a best-of-seven league final Friday in Kitchener against the Rangers, who also survived survived a seven-game scare before downing the Plymouth Whalers 3-1 Monday. The final pits the league's top two teams during the regular season, as the Rangers finished with 100 points and the 67's with 98. The winner will advance to the Memorial Cup in Quebec in mid-May. Gaels open with a draw Still optimistic of a Founder's Cup repeat BY BRIAN McNAIR Staff Writer MILTON - The Clarington Green Gaels began defence of the Founder's Cup national championship with a 12-12 tie against the Milton Mavericks Mavericks Friday. Opening the Ontario Lacrosse Association Association Jr. B season with their first of five straight road games, the Green Gaels were tied 2-2 through one period period and led 7-6 through two before entering overtime deadlocked at 11- 11. Both teams scored once in a five- minute overtime period. Veteran Shane Sargent led the way with four goals and three assists for the Green Gaels, who are minus 12 regulars from a year ago and audi tioned seven players without junior experience. "We're still fine-tuning our team," says Kevin O'Brien, who led the Gaels to a Founder's Cup title in 1998 and returns as coach after a few years out of junior lacrosse. "I've been really, really impressed with their focus and commitment."
