Deighton selects reach finals in Kingston ::n k 1 /, ) - , V V KINGSTON - The Clarington Clarington Deighton novice select hockey team closed out the season with a bang by finishing finishing as A finalist at a tournament tournament in Kingston and also winning a skills competition while there. After opening with a 9-2 win over Caledonia, Deighton played to a pair of draws, 1-1 against the Oshawa Church Hockey League selects and 2- 2 against Kingston. That set up an A final against Oshawa, which went to overtime before Oshawa prevailed 3-2. Deighton had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 but Oshawa Oshawa tied the game with five minutes left in regulation. Wilton took the gold on beam and placed third on vault, bars, and floor. In the 7C category, Emily Steele and Jessica McCullough earned the overall gold and silver medals. Steele placed first on bars, beam and floor and seventh on vault for first place overall. McCullough finished second on vault and bars, third on beam and sixth on floor to place second overall. In the same level, Julia Vinkovic, Re- bccka Hillebrand and Hailey Brooks placed fourth, seventh and ninth respectively. respectively. With an even medal split, Kaitlin Sodcrstrom and Larissa Xu finished first and second all-around in the 8A category. Xu took gold on bars and beam and silver on vault and floor for second, Both girls had total scores of over 37 out of 40 possible points. In 815, Gemini's Sarah Caggianel- lo placed first overall, taking gold on bars and floor, silver on beam and placed sixth on vault. Teammates Rachael Snider and Jessica Bellows took the silver and bronze overall medals respectively/Snider placed second on bars, third on beam and floor and fourth on vault. Mellows received received a gold medal on beam and silver silver on floor. Burlington.
