Clarington gymnasts representing Ontario put Clarington Gymnastics Academy on the provincial. Level 2, 13 years and over division Nick Fiorentino, 12, of Bowmanville, who placed 3rd overall in Ontario, re- cicved a gold medal on vault and two silver medals on pommel horse and parallel parallel bars, and fifth on high- bar. Sponsor Savoie, 12, of Oshawa, did outstanding,placing '7th overall in Ontario. Sponsor earned a silver medal on highbar and a 4th place finish finish on rings. Brenncn Airey, 12, of Peterborough, who is rated second in the province, earned two gold medals on highbar and parallel bars, a silver medal on rings, two bronze medals on floor and pommel horse and a fourth on vault. Level 2,10-12 years division Chris Franklin, 12, of Oshawa, performed very well placing 12th on floor, 18th on vault and 23rd on parallel bars. Dominik Matuszewski, 10, of Énniskillen, showed his athletic excellence by placing 7th overall in the province. Dominik earned a silver medal on the highbar, sixth on vault, and ninth on parallel parallel bars. Corey Vaillancourt, 9, of Clarington, performed great placing 16th on highbar, 24th on floor and 28th on pommel horse and vault. Level 1,10-12 years division Mark Campbell, 9, of Manilla, Manilla, performed very well for his first year in provincials. Mark earned 16th on pommel horse, 28th on parallel bars and 29th on vault. OSHAWA - In the Oshawa Oshawa Kicks season-opening tournament, the Darlington Hepcoe Credit Union/Bow- manville Canadian Tire/Moncy Concepts Thunder rolled undefeated to the tournament championship championship in the U10 division. In round-robin play against Peterborough, Pickering Pickering and Oshawa, the Thunder outscored its opposition opposition 8-0. Striker Jordan Kuypers scored six goals, with the help of fellow forwards forwards Matthew Carson, Kevin Miller and the strong midfield attack of Corey Van Gog, Christopher Kui- jpers, and Scott Williams. Strikers Nathan Laishram and Lucas Lyczba rounded out the scoring with one apiece. Keeper Zachary Houston teamed up with the strong defence of Mike Peelers, Spencer Moore, and Trevor Cyr to post four consecutive clean sheets. In the championship game against Oshawa it took penalty kicks to decide the final! In a nail biting finish, finish, keeper Houston stopped four of five shots, with Moore and Kuypers netting the goals that made the difference. On Saturday Darlington opened by playing the Olympic Flame. Darlington opened the scoring when Nathan Flint finished a lovely pass from Devon Brown. The Flames soon tied the game and if it wasn't wasn't for the outstanding play of team defenders Alex Ar- seneau, Bryce Cochrane, Trevor Kramer, Sean Lu- gossy and huge saves by keeper Matthew George, the Blue Devils may have surrendered more. Darlington Darlington got the momentum back and Taylor Prins converted converted a pass from Flint to make the final 2-1. Next up was the host team East York. Matt Kehoe scored in the first two minutes of the game to take an early 1 -0 lead. East, York tied the match, but Prins restored the one goal lead on a marvellously struck ball from well outside outside the 18-yard box. East York took over for the remainder remainder of the match scoring scoring three more making the final 4-2. In the last game the team had to play a strong Markham club. Even though the final was 3-0 for Markham, Darlington played its best game of the tournament and George had another huge game. The coaching staff is extremely extremely pleased with how the boys have developed into a strong team and arc looking forward to the start of the regular season.
