Hoping to set an attendance record by cramming more than 2,000 people into Kinsmen Stadium, the Dodgers were forced to re-schedule 'Optimist Day at the Ball Park' due to unplayable unplayable field conditions. The good news is the Toronto Maple Leafs will be in town for a second second attempt this Saturday, offering up the Intercounty Baseball League's marquee team. Admission to the 2 p.m. game is free to those who bring a non-perishable food item. The Dodgers didn't gel to play nearly as much ball as they had hoped on the weekend, also having Friday's game in Waterloo washed down the drain. But they finally managed to squeeze one in Sunday in Barrie, where they turned a close contest through six innings into a 14-3 victory over the Baycats. Jeremy Martin turned the tide with a marathon at-bat in the seventh inning, inning, fouling off eight pitches with the count full and the bases loaded before finally singling in a pair of runs and lying the game 3-3. The Dodgers went on to score three more runs in the inning. inning. Centre-fielder A1 Stephens made a thigh-high catch and doubled a runner off second in the bottom of the seventh and then sparked a six-run eighth with a home run. Ryan Crotin also went deep for the Dodgers in the eighth. "Those two plays, the al-bat by Martin and the double play by Stephens in the seventh, turned this game around," said manager Troy May. "We turned four double plays and that was a big factor in Ihe game," Steve Butterworth went six strong innings in his first start of the season, earning the win as a late replacement for Mall Tosoni, who fell tightness in his pitching shoulder. Jttmanl Joseph ami Chris England came on in relief. The Dodgers (4-3) have a difficult weekend ahead, hosting the 7-1 Leafs Saturday and playing in Kitchener against the 4-0 Panthers Sunday.
