Pyschics count on making a connection with clients BY ALEXIS SCIUK Staff Writer DURHAM - They may not be able to read your mind, but according according to many they come very close. For some people a visit to a psychic psychic is all about fun; for others, their life choices arc decided during an hour or half-hour consultation. Earlier this month people weaved anxiously between the two floors at the Whitby Curling Club with hopes of feeling a connection with a psychic psychic who would give them insight their most daunting questions. Jennifer Gauld and her friend June Lingard had just finished a seminar on meditation, one of many seminars offered, when they started searching for that special psychic. "I am trying to decide on this lady over here," said Ms. Gauld as she pointed toward the back corner of the room where an elderly woman sat with a deck of cards fanned in front of her. "Or I may go to the guy downstairs." Ms. Gauld could not put her finger finger on what it was that attracted her to certain psychics but admitted the more experienced sages left her more comfortable about her decision. decision. "We have been walking around here trying to pick someone. You get a feel talking to them. If you don't trust the person, then you won't go to them," said Ms. Gauld. The two friends have been to psychics psychics before but not at the Whitby Psychic Fair in particular. "This is the first time I heard of it. It is interesting," said Ms. Gauld. "Some people are accurate and others others don't know what they are talking about." Even though Ms. Gauld was looking looking forward to getting her palm read she was more interested in the meditation meditation seminar she had just participated participated in. Although she hasn't mastered the art of meditation yet Ms. Gauld was confident that she was on her way. Addara, a spiritual healer and tarot card reader believes meditation is the first step in getting balance and spiritual healing. "When you learn to clear the mind of those conscious thoughts other things will come in and you start using different parts of your brain, whereas people we don't use those areas most of the lime. It bring positive positive energy into your life." Born into a "family of readers" Addara believes everybody has psychic-abilities. psychic-abilities. "I have been in this field for years. I think we arc all born with it. It is whether you choose to develop it or not," said Addara. Many clients are shocked when Addara delivers their reading because because as she puts it is "very accurate." accurate." She meets such scepticism with an open mind. "First of all, most people are surprised surprised at how much you can know about them without knowing them. A question often asked is do you read minds, which we do not. We do not have that ability." Addara joked that reading minds would be a taxing skill to have. "Just think how exhausted you would be if you went around reading minds all day. Like why would I want to?" How then do psychics make that special connection? "When someone sits down with a reader there is already an energy beginning. beginning. As long as the person getting getting the reading relaxes, information just flows through an energy existence." existence." With dozens of other psychics all in one room it was a wonder that the fair was conducive to reaching spirits spirits and having intimate, personal readings, but according to Addara, the atmosphere was just right. "I like the fair for this reason: it gives the average person a chance to come in, look around, learn from the lectures we do, learn from the books that are available and they do not have to have a reading when they walk into the door. It brings personal awareness. It is personal choice and it doesn't have that carnival atmosphere," atmosphere," said Addara. Psychic Eddie Diijon, right, performs a reading for Megan Hearne.
