Though the final numbers have not been tallied, lair manager Gold Robinson says "records were broken again in the midway and attendance-wise. "It was excellent: the weather co-operated." co-operated." Initial estimates show numbers were up by 10 to 12 per cent, making it tough for volunteers to keep up with the crowds, notes Mr. Robinson. "A lot of people couldn't keep up, ripping tickets and taking money," he says, noting volunteers helped everything run smoothly. "I had people who took holidays to work here," Mr. Robinson says. The fair ran from Thursday through Sunday Sunday at the Orono fair grounds. This was the first year the Municipality of Clarington provided free bus service from Bowmanville and Newcastle to the lair. The service was "well-used," and Mr. Robinson says he hopes it will continue in coming years.
