Playing for the first time on Vaso Vujanovic Fields, named in honour of their coach, the Lords won by scores of 7-0 over the St. Clair Saints and 3-2 over the Humber Hawks to claim the first tournament held at Durham's new field and their second in as many weekends. Hennessey was named the tournament's most valuable player after scoring three goals in the opener and two in the gold medal game. Laura Dixon and Kristina Foreman chipped in with two goals apiece over the two games while Adrienne Coughlan added one. Uxbridge's Ashley Visser continues to shine in goal for the Lords, earning both wins and her third shutout of the season. The men's team, meantime, opened with a 5-1 win over St. Clair but fell 4-1 to the Seneca Sting in the final. Dan Mattin fired a hat trick in the opener and had Durham's lone goal in the gold medal match. Tyler Mattin added a pair against St. Clair. Both Durham soccer teams begin the Ontario Colleges Athletic Athletic Association regular season Friday at Algonquin College. On the ball diamonds, Durham teams had mixed results, results, with the women's fastball team cruising to three shutout victories and the men's baseball team losing three of four games to strong American competition. Brakes put on winning streak at Mosport BOWMANVILLE - Port Perry's Devon Powell had the brakes put on his two-year winning winning streak at Mosport International International Speedway - literally. The Powell Motorsports No. 11 Corvette co-driven by Powell Powell and Doug Goad finished a close second to the tandem of Jean-François Dumoulin and Bobby Julien in a Porsche at the Sunoco Ultra 94 Mosport three- hour race Saturday. The win extended the lead atop the Grand Am Cup Series driver's standings for Dumoulin and Julien, who have won four of the eight races in the series, with just three remaining. Powell, who crossed the finish finish line first in the past two races held at Mosport in 2002 and 2001, had that streak snapped after faulty brakes on the car caused some havoc. The brake trouble, coupled with a run-in with a lire wall, dropped the team as low as I Oth place, but Goad mounted an amazing comeback late in the race to put the car in second place at the finish. Powell turned a 101.203 mph lap in qualifying to grab the pole position for Saturday's race. His lap time of 1:27.472 shattered his own Grand Sport 1 track record set in 2001. liK..
