Mr. Lemieux's family say their "hearts go out" to the man driving the van. "We're very, very worried about him, that he has to live with this for the rest of his life," says Mr. Lemieux's daughter, Mary-lou, who came upon the accident as she was out looking for her father after he wandered from his Baseline Road area home just after midnight Monday. Monday. Mr. Lemieux and his wife, Isabella, had lived in Bow- manville for 13 years, since Mr. Lemieux retired from his job as quartermaster with the Coast Guard. For the last four years, he had suffered from Alzheimer's, says his wife. But in spite of the disease, he was a wonderful husband and father, she says. "He was a good man, a good father," agrees his daughter, one of Mr. Lemieux's five children. children. "He worked hard all his life ... The almost-75-year-old school, which once served as Bowmanvillc's high school, is currently only 57 per cent full, and fits the Kawarlha Pine Ridge District School Board's criteria for review, says a report from board staff. "There arc a number of is sues that have been raised," says Clarington Trustee Nancy Coffin, noting declining declining enrolment, combined with the difficulty of providing security security in the building given the location of the office, and problems with offering programs programs to such a small school population make it a school to look at for possible closure. But, no decision has been made, she says. "We will have a review process, which does not mean we are closing" BSPS, says Ms. Coffin. However, she says, the senior senior public school idea is one that seems to be falling out of favour in recent years. "Across the province, there's been an indication that it's a mid-1960s idea, and they're going to (Grade) 7 to 12 schools or Kindergarten to (Grade) S schools," she says. "Parents in Clarington said they wanted K to 8 schools." A school review committee will be put together in December, December, after the municipal election election in which trustees will be elected. Man hurt in crash-landing of plane BY DANIELLE MILLEY Staff Writer DURHAM - A 31-year-old Oshawa man broke his leg after crash-landing Iris' plane on a street north of Newcastle Sunday. Sunday. The man's plane came down on Best Road south of Skelding Road at 1:45 p.m. in Leskard. Sergeant Paul Malik of Durham Regional Police said he believed the man was trying to land the plane when it slammed down hard on the street causing extensive damage to his leg, No other vehicles were involved involved in the incident. The man, who police could not identify, was the sole occupant occupant of the plane. He was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital by air ambulance with non-lile threatening injuries. Police notified Transport Canada of the incident. It is handling handling the investigation.
