The young boy was with his family at the Bowmanville Apple Festival Oct. 18 when he began having a seizure. His parents pulled up to a police officer at 2:15 p.m. and asked for help. "The parent jumped out indicating indicating the child was having some sort of medical problem," said Constable Corey Walsh. Const. Walsh, along with constables constables Darryl Lafrancc and Kris Corbeil, began administering first aid. The officers tried to make sure the airway was clear to help the struggling boy. "At one point the child's pulse was vciy faint and he started to turn blue," Const. Walsh said. * An off-duty paramedic later assisted assisted the officers who were able to stabilize the child. Const. Walsh was glad the first- aid training he and his fellow officers officers take as part of their job was able to help in the situation. "Thank God in this case it worked out in our favour - or in the little guy's favour," he said. Const. Walsh doesn't see his actions as heroic. "I don't think anybody would have done anything differently," he said. Paramedics arrived minutes after police began first aid and rushed the boy to Lakeridge Health Bowmanville where doctors doctors were able to bring the child out of distress. Later that day, Const. Walsh went to the hospital to see how the child was doing. "The parents seemed very grateful and relieved," lie said.
