CELIA KLEMENZ/ Statesman photo Test of strength Roy's Enterprise novice Toros make it in New York Defeat Batavia 5-1 in B Division Championship game ROCHESTER, NY - The Clarington Clarington Roy's Enterprise Toros novice A hockey team traveled to Rochester, New York to participate in the Rochester Face-0 IT of the Empire State Tournament Series. The Toros were the only Canadian team playing in the Mite Division of the series. The Clarington team faced squads from Monroe County, Perinton and Batavia, ranging in skill from A to AAA rep levels. The Toros played very well but took some time getting accustomed to the changes in rules, game duration and puck weight during round robin play. • The Toros came up against the Batavia Ramparts for the second time during the series in the B Division Championship. The Toros had played the Ramparts earlier in the tournament with their game ending in a 5-5 tie. In the championship the Toros came out on top with a convincing 5-1 win against the Ramparts. The team showed great sportsmanship sportsmanship during the tournament, including Joshua Arbour, Marco Azzano, Joshua Barker, Jason Bcll-Cassells, Timothy Cordery, Scott Ferguson, Eric Gronke, Chad Hibbert, Jakob Holub, Joshua Lucas, Devin MacLean, Calvin Ruddy, Ty Smith, Collin Weston and Aaron Woods, while Spencer Lincl- gren and Matthew Jones played excellent excellent games in net for the Toros. North, Metro Girls' Hockey League Web site as of Nov. 5 had a definite Clarington flavour at the top. All four of the Clarington teams were in first place in their respective divisions. The atoms, coached by Wayne Marchment, led 12 other teams in the Tier 2 division division with a record of 6-1- 1, Scoring 30 goals with only six against. The Ralph Cryderman coached peewees were undefeated undefeated with four wins and two ties to lead the Tier 3 division comprised, of 11 teams. In those six games they had scored 19 goals with only seven against. In the bantam Tier 3 Division, Division, the girls, coached by Brian Jones, have a 3-0 record and are tied with Durham West in first place though Durham West has played two more games. The bantams have managed I f goals in three games while opposing teams have only been able to score once. Jim Michaud has led his midget girls to an undefeated undefeated record of 4-0-1. The team has scored 11 goals with four against in the highly competitive Tier 3 division. This is the first year the Flames, sponsored by J&M Tire, have played in the NMGITL, having previously previously competed in the Central East League.
