Pair of wins put atoms in finals HASTINGS - The Newcastle Newcastle McDonald's atom team entered entered the Percy Tournament in Hastings on Saturday, Nov. 8, reaching the championship game. Newcastle defeated Tam- worth by a score of 3-1 in its first game. Goals were scored by Marshall Megahy, Jesse Hancock and Conor Rochon. In the second game they went on to beat Newmarket by a convincing score of 5-2. Eric Hutchins scored three times, with singles to Alex Hutchins and Megahy. In the A finals Newcastle faced a strong Colborne team which had 14 goals for and only three against in its first two games. Colborne struck early and had a 2-0 lead until William Malcolm and E. Hutchins evened the score. Though Colborne ended up winning by a final score of 3-2, Newcastle played with great determination and heart. In all three games Kurt SIoos provided outstanding goaltending. Players that contributed with assists were E. Hutchins, Kristian Walker, Malcolm, Chris Gilbank, Jacob Beauchamp, Matt Wong and A. Hutchins. Novice Stars shine in league play NEWCASTLE - The Newcastle Stars team put up three wins in as many games in novice rep play, outscoring the opposition 19-5. In a 4-1 win over Orono, Jeff Guernsey had a pair of goals with solos going to Brennan Ken nelly nelly and Ryan Taylor, Michael Smith had two assists, assists, with one each to Guernsey and Kevin Turner.
