The hope, of course, is Friday, when the two East Division rivals hook up for the fifth of eight times this season, and fresh off Sunday's 2-2 tie when the Generals dominated the Corey Locke- less 67's, but couldn't put them away before. 3,025 fans at Oshawa's Civic Auditorium. Locke, the defending OHL scoring champ and third in points this.season with 63, missed the game with a sprained knee suffered two nights earlier, earlier, but is expected back for the rematch in Ottawa Friday at 7:30 p.m. The division-leading 67'S, now 3-0- 1-0 against the Generals this season and 16-16-5-1 overall, were playing their fifth game in eight nights and also missing missing power forward Bryan Bickell of Orono, who is out for at least two more weeks with a shoulder injury. Mind you, the Generals were.play- ing their third game in four nights, also , suffering from the injury bug, though not to the same extent, and could easily have won the game if not for the fine play of Ottawa goalie Lukas Mensator. "I thought we played a pretty solid hockey game. We got a little silly on maybe two or three shifts all night long, had a couple of turnovers, and a couple of bad penalties late in the third period," said Generals' coach George Burnett. "I thought we had great momentum, great pressure, great' chances and it comes back to our inability to score on some good scoring chances." The Generals outshot the 67's 6-2 in overtime and 41-31 overall, but couldn't score again after defenceman Paul Ranger gave them a 2-1 lead 5:39 into the final frame. Brandon McBride also scored for the Generals, while Matthew Albiani and Mark Mancari, midway through the third, replied for Ottawa. The Generals saw their record move to 12-18-8-1, which leaves them five points back of top spot in the division, but, more importantly, only one up on the Peterborough Petes (14-20-1-3) for the eighth and final playoff spot in the conference. "I see some good things here," said Burnett, whose club has won only one game in the past 10. "Are we where we want to be? No. We're right there with a lot of teams. We're close but we're not there yet and we're going to push real hard, get through the rough spots and be a lot better over the last 30 games." GENERALLY SPEAKING: After Friday's game in Ottawa, .the Generals are in Belleville against the Bulls (9-22- 6-1) Saturday at 7:15 p.m. and at home against the Owen Sound Attack (18-11- 6-4) Sunday at 6:35 p.m. (a game originally originally scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 13).
