Outfielder Terry Challice of Whitby and shortstop Chris Jones of Oshawa were part of the Canadian entry that fell just short of winning it all, settling for à silver medal after a 9-5 loss to the host and defending champion New Zealand squad. Canada finished fourth at the last ISF World Softball Championships in 2000. "We had a great tournament and given that it is our off season when some of these teams are in-season, our results were positive," said head coach Mark Smith. "We have a dynamic team filled with a great group of talented talented men who worked hard all week to get to the final game. We wanted gold, but at least we are going home with a medal." Jones was in the starting lineup for the final, batting ninth, while Challice watched from the sidelines. Both contributed to a 7-0 semifinal win over Australia, however.
