THE CANADIAN STATESMAN, May 26,2004 PAGE 13 www.durhamregion.com $()C Canadian Statesman infodurhamregion.com Gaels seek consistency during lengthy homestand BY BRAD KELLY Sports Editor BOWMAN VILLE - Home sweet home. That's the premise the Clarington Green Gaels are welcoming, enjoying a stretch of five consecutive home games that kicked off on a positive note with a 10-9 overtime victory over the defending Founder's Cup champion champion Barrie Tornado last week. It was the second win in a row for the Jr. B lacrosse club, and there's no reason to think that trend won't continue continue through this extended home stand. Floundering .through a 'win one, lose one' stretch for eight games prior, to the triumph over the Tornado, consistency consistency will be the operative word over the next couple of weeks. "We're battling consistency," agreed goaltender Curtis Doherty, who played a huge role in the win over Barrie. Barrie. "We'll play a good game and figure our problems are better, and then we will go back to bad habits in the next one." • Beginning with tomorrow night's tilt against the Huntsville Hawks, the Green Gaels have a golden opportunity opportunity to improve on théir 7-4 mark and second placé Mid-East standing standing behind the 8-3 1 Markham Ironheads. Curtis Doherty On paper, at least, the Green Gaels should prevail in all four outings, so long as they don't revert back to the bad habits that plagued them through the earlier part of the month. "I don't know what's wrong with them," said co-coach Jason Crosbie of the team's indifferent play. "They get in a lull. They win a game and think they're good and then they think they can take a night off, but you can't take a night off in this league." Through IT games, the Green Gaels are . aji impressive 5-2 on the road, but just 2-2 at home, a mark that they will undoubtedly like to improve improve on.
