McComb, current head coach of the Whitby Warriors who served as an assistant under the legendary Bishop for five years, won the Jim Bishop Memorial Award along with assistant coach Ryan Harris and gen eral manager Bob Hanna Friday. The award is given by the Ontario Lacrosse Association to the Junior A coaching staff of the year. "The nice part about this award is having Jim's name attached attached to it," McComb McComb says of Bishop, Bishop, who died in a 1998 car accident. "That's the special part." Now McComb would like nothing more than to emulate his mentor fur Jeff McComb ther and win a Minto Cup national championship for the first time as a head coach (he's won twice as an assistant, assistant, once with Bishop). In order to have a chance, the Warriors Warriors will have to come out on top of their current best-of-seven final with the Six Nations Arrows. The series was tied 2-2 heading into Game 5 last night (after our deadline) in Whitby. Game 6 is tonight in Ohsweken and, if necessary, Game 7 Saturday in Whitby, both at 8 p.m. "It's so close. It's the little, little, little things that are making the difference difference now," McComb says of the series. "Definitely the Minto Cup is the grand prize at the end that you all strive for." The pattern of the first four games should suit the Warriors just fine. If each team continues to win at home, the Warriors would emerge victorious in seven games and earn a trip to British Columbia for the Minto Cup tournament. In the most recent action, the Warriors Warriors won 8-6 in Whitby Friday, but fell 6-4 at Six Nations Sunday. Zack Greer and Matt Taylor both scored hat tricks in Friday's victory at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre. Nick Cotter and Ryan Sharp added singles for the Warriors, who led 4-2 through one period and 8-5 through two. Nick Carson, Matt Savoie. Sharp and Greer scored in defeat lor Whitby Whitby on Sunday. NOTE: Kyle Wailes, who is a former former member of the Clarington Green Gaels, won the Dennis Macintosh Memorial Award as Junior A league's most valuable player. Playing for the Toronto Beaches, Wailes easily won his second straight scoring title with 31-76-107 numbers in 20 games this season. Durham athletes make impact at Olympic Games ATHENS - Two of Durham's seven Olympic athletes appeared to be on track for medals through the first four days of competition in Greece. Uxbridge's Chris Begg and Os- hawa's Andy Stewart both made appearances appearances as Canada rolled to three straight wins to start the eight-team baseball competition. Begg pitched a scoreless inning of relief and Stewart flew out with his lone at-bat as Canada beat Italy 9-3 Monday. The Canadians also won by identical 7- 0 counts over the Netherlands Tuesday and Chinese Taipei Sunday. The top four teams from a seven-game round- robin advance to semifinals on Aug. 24. The medal games are the next day. In sailing, Pickering's Bernard Luttmer was in 21st place in the laser class through two days of competition. Tuesday's races were re-scheduled due to excessive wind. In equestrian, Port Perry's Ian Roberts and horse Mata-riki were struggling through three rounds of eventing, sitting in 70th spot Tuesday. Pickering's Perdita Felicien, the favourite to win the 100-metre hurdles, missed Friday's opening ceremonies while training in Italy. She is now in Athens preparing for Sunday's heats.
