Throughout the year, you will be hearing details of Newcastle's Sesquicentennial event. The 2006 Mayor's Levee will be held at the Newcastle Community Hall on Sunday, January 15th 2006 from 12:30 to 2:30 PM, and I hope that you will come out on that occasion to hear more about the Newcastle Sesquicentennial Sesquicentennial events and to meet the Members of Clarington Council. The Village of Newcastle was incorporated as a Village in 1856 as one of the earliest municipalities in Ontario following the passage of the Baldwin Act, which laid out the Province in lots and concessions. The area encompassing the Village Village of Newcastle in 1856 was once part of a larger area, the District of Newcastle. In.1973, when the Province of Ontario formed regional municipalities, the Village of Newcastle was amalgamated with the Town of Bowmanville and Townships of Darlington and Clarke and the whole area was then called, the Town of Newcastle, a throwback to the old days of districts. districts. In 1993, the name of the amalgamated municipality was changed to the present "Municipality of Clarington", but the Village of Newcastle continues to be one of the most important important communities of Clarington.. Newcastlè is full of history and the Newcastle Sesquicentennial Sesquicentennial Steering Committee has been meeting for the past year to organize events and celebrations for 2006. This hard working volunteer group wants everyone to know all about the Village of Newcastle, past, present and future. I invite all of the residents residents of Clarington to become involved and participate in the year's activities. Happy 150th Birthday to the Village of Newcastle! m MAYOR'S LEVEE Everyone is cordially invited to join Mayor Mutton and Members of Council at the Mayor's Levee to be held on Sunday, January 15,2006. As 2006 marks the Sesquicentennial (150th) Anniversary of Newcastle, Newcastle, the 2006 Levee will be held at the Newcastle Community Hall, 20 King Avenue West,' Newcastle.
