The Ontario government has officially invited bidding from the three shortlisted shortlisted groups for a proposal to design, build, finance and maintain the courthouse, courthouse, which is to be constructed in Oshawa's downtown core. Announced in December 2005, the 360,000-square-foot project will see a state-of-the-art, integrated court facility facility built at 150 Bond St. E. The facility will consolidate justice services cur rently being delivered from seven locations locations in the region and will house 33 courtrooms, three motions rooms, two conference rooms and related justice services. Oshawa Mayor John Gray said the project will help to rejuvenate the downtown downtown core. "Up to 1,800 visitors will conduct business in the building on a peak daily basis, which will spur increased demand for office space, restaurant meals and other services in the area," he said in a • recent press release. The courthouse will be built on a former former brownfield site, which fits into the city's Brownfields Community Improvement Improvement Plan to encourage the cleanup and redevelopment of former industrial and commercial lands. According to the Ontario government, the courthouse is to be built to Leadership Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards, including rigorous requirements for energy management management and conservation. The target is an early 2009 construction construction completion date.
