FREE DEDUCTIBLE ON MOST INSURANCE CLAIMS „ E2Z9 AUTO GLASS} Whitby wins pair of weekend games to go up 3-0 in EOSHL final; Game 4 tomorrow in Norwood BY SHAWN CAYLEY Staff Writer NORWOOD -- Prior to the start of the Eastern Ontario Senior Hockey League final last week, the Whitby Dunlops were dubbing their upcoming matchup "The series that everyone has been.waiting for." Well, after three games in which for, the most part the Dunlops have been outplayed, it is quickly turning into a series the Norwood Vipers would just as soon forget. Behind another pair of outstanding efforts between the. pipes from Joel Whitmarsh, the Dunlops won Games 2 and 3, by respective 6-3 and 5-4 scores to grab a 3-0 stranglehold on the series heading into Game 4 tomorrow night in Norwood. Dunlops coach Mike Posavad used "absolutely outstanding", to describe the way Whitmarsh, who made 46 saves in Game 2 and another 42 in Game 3, has played. "Joel has been outstanding for us," said Posavad when asked about his goaltender. "He has made the key saves for us when we need them and it's not like he is only making them in the first period. Joel has been right there making them in the third when the game in on the line." What is even more outstanding outstanding is that those two performances performances came on the heels, of a 51- save effort in Game 1. Between Whitmarsh Whitmarsh standing on his head, and the ' Dunlops' Joel Whitmarsh potent power play, which scored six more times over the weekend, it isn't a wonder they are only one win away from advancing to the next round against the Major Hockey League champion for the right to battle for the Allan Cup. "Our power play has been excellent," noted Posavad. "I think we are going at about a 30 per cent clip, and at this time of year, the playoffs, that is amaz ing. Couple that with the way Joel has played and it's easy to say those are the two biggest keys to our success so far." Posavad warns against getting too comfortable being up three games to none, but he says his club's saving grace in terms of becoming complacent prior to wrapping up the series will be their experience. "Our guys know the toughest game ■ to win is always the last one," he said. "We know Norwood is going to come out (tomorrow) and probably play their best game yei. We have so much experience experience in this room that I am not worried worried at all that the guys might relax a little. "If s not over yet," he added. NOTES: Should the Dunlops fail to close out the series tomorrow, then Game 5 will go Saturday night at 6:30 at Iroquois Park... Scoring goals in Game 2 for Whitby were Peter MacK- ellar with two, Martin Kearns, Ron Baker, Bob McQuat and Joe Van Vol- sen. Game 3 marksmen were MacKel- lar and Shayne McCosh, both with a pair, while Baker added a single- Norwood's Joe Hawley, who had three goals in Game 1 and leads the playoffs with 14 goals and 20 points in five games, missed the two weekend games with an injured knee.
