Earth Day is recognized internationally, in over 180 countries, and has grown so much that celebrations take place throughout the month of April. Earth Day is celebrated every every year on April 22. This Saturday there are two Earth Day events scheduled in Clarington. 1. COMMUNITY PLANTING EVENT in association with the Hampton Pond Recovery Project. Help the Hampton Citizen's Association, the Municipality of Clarington and the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA) plant 400 trees and shrubs. This is a BYOS (bring your own shovel) event and runs from 9:00 -11:30 AM. All participants are to meet at the Trail Entrance on Mill Street. Cancer has touched so many of our lives and continues to every day. Cops for Cancer started In 1994 when a police officer in Edmonton heard of a student at a local school who was getting bullied because he had lost his hair, from treatment he was receiving for cancer. The officer organized other officers and they shaved their heads to show support and Joined the student at school to show support.
