Catharines. She swam a perfect 5-for-5. It's an amazing accomplishment on the surface, however, Neal says she is just getting started on what she hopes to accomplish this year. ■ "I wouldn't say I was surprised by my results, it was. pretty much just a warm-up for Nationals in two. weeks," she said on Monday. "I didn't really have much competition, so I tried to just focus on swimming my best times. I am No. 1 in Canada in all my races, so I am expected to provide those kind of results." Neal brought home five gold medals in her age group (women's 50-54), one each in the 50m fly, 50m freestyle, 100m fly, 100m freestyle and 200m freestyle. Already the owner of three National best times, Neal fell just shy of setting new records in both the 50m free and 50m fly. The Masters National Championships Championships arc being held in Calgary on the Victoria Day weekend, and Neal has her eyes set on another sweep. "I'd like to win all of my events. I'll be shooting for all gold medals," said Neal, who won six golds at Nationals in 2005. "Anything less, well I guess that would be a disappointment." Mike Patrick, also of the Clarington Swim Club, made an impact at the Masters provincial meet as well. Patrick out-swam his competition for the most part on his way to capturing capturing gold in men's 100m, 200m, 400m and 1500m freestyle, in addition to a pair of second place finishes in the 50m freestyle and 50m fly. Not only are his four gold medals 1 impressive, but Patrick managed to set a couple of National records in his age group (men's 50-54) along the way. Patrick's name cam now be found in the Masters' record books beside the men's 400m free, 800m free (an official official split in his 1500m) and the 1500m freestyle, which is an accomplishment he is elated about. Though impressed with his showing, Patrick was quick to deflect the credit to his coach when it comes to his success. success. "Although I trained very hard this past year with my eye on those records, it was Karen Hillis who ensured that every metre I swam, I was focused," he said of his coach. "She really deserves a lot of credit. At nearly 50, I am swimming faster times now then I was in my 30's." Like Carson, Patrick will also head out to Calgary for the Nationals with his eye on continued dominance. "I'd be nice to go out there and keep doing what I have been doing," he admitted. "I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens." 'I am No. 1 in Canada in all my races, so I am expected to provide those kind of results.'
