t I durhamrcgion.com UOIT adds to coaching staff OSHAWA -- Rob Pearson is returning to the hockey scene in Oshawa. Pearson, who played with the Oshawa Generals, and played six years in the National Hockey League, will join Marlin Muylaert behind the bench of the UOIT Ridgebacks when the university, club hits the ice for the first time in October of 2007. UOIT Athletic Director Ken Babcock had dropped a few good words about Pearson's addition to the Ridgebacks coaching staff. "We are excited to have added an individual with Rob's high calibre hockey background and experience to our Varsity program," he said in a press release. "Rob will be a very positive influence influence on the student athletes, has a lot to offer knowledge wise and will definitely assist in attracting top flight players players to our program." Pearson, an Oshawa native, was a first round draft pick, 12th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1989, and also played with the Washington Washington Capitals and St. Louis Blues before wrapping up his professional career with the Frankfurt Lions of the German German League. On the court, UOIT has added to their women's tennis coaching coaching staff with the appointment of Davis Cup player and St. Lucia native Kane Easter as an assistant coach to head man Ken Crosina. The 29-year-old, who has played 55 Davis Cup matches matches in his career, is a highly regarded tennis teacher, who is part of the Campus Tennis Centre Instruction team and is a member of the Oshawa Tennis Club. "We are very pleased to have added an individual with Kane's tennis background , and world experience to our varsity program," said Babcock Babcock of the latest addition to the Ridgebacks program. McLean realizes her dream BURNABY, B.C. - A few years ago, Erin McLean was on her way out west to play softball for Simon Fraser University with the dream of representing her country at the Olympics. Well, she isn't there yet, but her most recent accomplishment accomplishment will give her the opportunity to do so. McLean, a junior third basemen at Simon Fraser Fraser University was recently named to Softball Canada's Women's National team which will compete in the Ontario' Pro Tour, Canada Cup and U.S. Cup. To cul- minate the year, McLean and the national program will take the field at the 2006 International Softball Federation World Championships Championships which will be held , in Beijing, China Aug. 27 to Sept. 5 as a qualifier for the 2008 Summer Games.
