Ontario Street celebrates 30 years as French Immersion Open house for former students this Saturday BY JENNIFER STONE Staff Writer BOWMANVILLE - The halls of Ontario Street Public School will serve as a' timeline, delineating delineating the 30 years of French immersion in the school during an open house this Saturday. The . school, the original part of which was built in 1949, will celebrate 30 years as a French - immersion' centre Saturday, May 6, with an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All former staff and studènts are invited to attend, said Principal Jean Marchand. Throughout the event, the halls of the school will serve as a timeline, with pictures from the 30 years lining the walls. In the gym, there will be more photos, and video, including some footage footage of the original part of the school being constructed more than a half-century ago.' Long-time staff members at the school, including Mr. Marchand, who has been there for 18 years, were able to dig up a fair bit of history to be put on display, he said. The event will also include a barbecue. ■ Through the 30 years of French immersion at the school, one thing has remained unchanged, said the principal. "No matter what year, what decade, or what part of the 30 years, this school community has never changed... If one dedicated family of volunteers graduated or moved on, there were always five more to replace them," he spid. Events, like the school's annual fun fairs, concerts, and Christmas Christmas lunch have carried on "in spite of who has been here," said Mr. Marchand. "For our Christmas lunch, we will get 100 parent volunteers who will come out and help with that," said Mr. Marchand. "It's that school spirit -- .it's indelible. It sticks with our students no matter where they go." CBOT meeting CLARINGTON - The Board of Trade's next meeting will be held today at the Comfort Shoppe.
