Dodgers swing into first place BY BRIAN MCNAIR Staff Writer OSHAWA - Don't look now, but the Oshawa Dodgers are in first place. Actually, now might be the best time to look, as it's unlikely they will maintain that perch in the Intercounty Baseball League. But they will enjoy it while they can. Craig Megill had four hits and two RBIs and Ryan Cretin swatted the first home mn of the season as the Dodgers managed a 10-7 win over the Stratford Nationals in Saturday's IBL season opener at Kinsmen Memorial Stadium. "The game went as well as we could have expected," said Mike Prosper, making making his managerial debut for the Dodgers. "We battled hard and showed a lot of poise coming back." The Dodgers fell behind 3-1 in the top of the fifth inning, but struck for a pair in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game against Stratford starter Shawn Gillespie. The teams exchanged runs in the sixth inning before the Dodgers blew the game open with a five-run seventh. In Gillespie, the Dodgers were facing one of the league's top pitchers, owner of the ninth best ERA with the London Majors a year ago. - Although sporting new ownership and a new name from the 1-33 Storm team of a ; last season, Stratford still appears to have some work to do, as they were pounded 25-9 by Kitchener Sunday. The Dodgers are also looking to improve on a difficult 2005, when they finished just ahead of Stratford in eighth place with a 9-26 record. "If I go into a season with any thoughts other than winning, then I'd be cheating the team," Prosper says when asked of his expectations for the Dodgers. Like many of the teams in the league, the Dodgers are still waiting for reinforcements reinforcements from the U.S. college ranks, expected fn the next few weeks. "I can't wait because you're going to see a different team," says Prosper. "We're going to fight for each other... I want my kids to believe in the team concept."
