Part of a year-long safe driving effort undertaken by Durham police, Operation Licence Revoked was designed to enforce court or Ministry of Transportation orders suspending driving rights. Officers laid 46 charges during the last two weeks of April against motorists who ignored licence suspensions and were caught behind the wheel. Many of the offenders were nabbed in the parking parking lot outside traffic court, police said. After receiving sentences and having their licences licences revoked, some offenders walked out of the building, got into their vehicles and prepared to drive off. Charges laid during the blitz included driving while disqualified and driving without insurance, as well as a number of other offences.
