Bill Greer says soon after his 'father's death, the family began ' thinking of a proper way to hon- [our him. Submitted photo Dan Greer sips from the Minto Cup, the top prize for Jr. A lacrosse in the country. A memorial tournament in his honour honour will be held in Clarington this weekend. "I knew right away, right after (he died), that we wanted to do something to honour him," explains Bill, who plays for the Brooklin Redmen in the summer and Rochester Knighthawks in the winter. "He meant so much to so many people in the com munity." With that in mind, a proposal was put together, and rather than having it held in Whitby, where several other events of this ilk take place, Clarington and the Ontario Lacrosse Association was presented with the idea, which was accepted with open arms. "In Whitby there are so many tournaments, and with (Dan's) grand-kids (Amanda's kids) playing playing in Clarington, it just seemed like a natural fit," says Bill. "Amanda has been so involved and they were nice enough to give their support along with the OLA. Right away things were approved." • Games will be played out of the Garnet B. Rickard Recreational Complex along with the Darlington Darlington Sports Centre, and it will be one of the first tournaments to include girls' teams. "(That was) something I insisted insisted on when I took the proposal to CMLA because my dad was such a huge supporter of women athletes," says Amanda. According to Bill and Amanda, the response and interest in the tournament has been great, with 20 teams and roughly 500 players players currently signed up.
