MAYOR JOHN MUTTON MAYOR S CORNER ( FREE PUBLIC SWIMMING - SUMMER HEAT CONDITIONS PROCEDURE During the upcoming summer months, we will most likely experience, from time to time, severe heat conditions where the temperature will exceed 30 degrees Celsius and may include humidity in excess of 40 degrees Celsius. In an effort to offer relief from the heat to the residents of the Municipality of Clarington, Council has approved a summer heat condition procedure. The procedure allows free public swimming to be offered during regular recreational swimming periods when the temperature rises above 30 degrees Celsius. In addition, the swimming hours will be extended to 9:00 p.m. The aquatics facilities will be open to the public free of charge during all time periods not normally reserved for scheduled swimming programs/classes. The summer heat conditions policy is in place from July 1 to Labour Day and the Director of Community Services is instructed to direct staff to invoke the summer heat procedure. Residents of the Municipality will be advised of summer heat conditions through local radio stations (Energy FM 94.9 and AM 1350 and KX96). I hope that the free public swimming during extreme heat conditions will help to make your summer more enjoyable. I wish you a very safe, happy and "cool" summer!
